News: Update on Principal & Administrative Vacancies

Superintendent Walker Williams is pleased to announce that at its meeting yesterday, the Board of Education made the following administrative appointments (effective July 1, 2013) to fill vacancies created by retirements, resignation, restructuring, and/or reassignments (in addition to the appointments announced last week - the May 31 announcement is listed on this page after this June 6 announcement):
Jody Pastell, Director of Student Support Services
The Principal of Cornerstone at Pedregal Elementary since 1999. She has also served as a Director for the Curriculum and Instruction Office and an Assistant Principal at Palos Verdes Intermediate School.
Becky Cash, Director of Student Support Services
The Principal of Point Vicente Elementary since 2007 has developed and directed the largest full inclusion elementary Special Education program in the District.
Emiko Chapman, Coordinator of Student Services
A school psychologist with the District since 2001 was named a Behavior/Mental Health psychologist specialist in 2012-13.
Jessica Silberling, Coordinator of Student Support Services
A school psychologist with the District since 2006 was named an Academic RtI psychologist specialist in 2012-13.
Codean Reed, Coordinator Preschool Programs
Currently a Special Education / Program Specialist with the Norwalk La Mirada Unified School District. Codean was a Special Education preschool teacher for PVPUSD from 2001-07 and helped develop the full inclusion pre-school model program.
Kevin Allen, Principal Miraleste Intermediate School
Has been the Principal of Soleado Elementary since 2005. He has prior teaching and administrative experience at the intermediate school level with Alameda Unified School District and LAUSD.
Jeff Keeney, Principal of Cornerstone Elementary
Jeff has been the Principal of Mira Catalina Elementary since 2006 and was an experienced elementary teacher prior to being named Principal.
Beth Hadley, Principal of Point Vicente Elementary
Has been the Principal of Miraleste Intermediate since 2008 with previous experience and expertise in Special Education.
Gina Stutzel, Principal of Soleado Elementary
Served as an Instructional Coach this year and has been an elementary teacher in the District since 2002.
Grace La Tegola, Principal of Mira Catalina Elementary
An experienced educational leader who has served as an elementary principal, district administrator, and educational consultant in numerous districts in California.
It is our plan to work with the school sites to find dates in the upcoming days/weeks to introduce new principals to teachers, staff, and parents.
We are still in the process of filling Principal vacancies at Vista Grande Elementary and Palos Verdes High School.
- The deadline for applying for Principal of Palos Verdes High School has been extended to the end of June. Staff will enlist the assistance of a search firm to assist us with identifying well qualified applicants.
- Paper screening and interviews will take place the following week.
We are restructuring the Pupil Services Department in order to enhance program/services and to reduce expenditures based on retirements, resignations, and transfers. It will now be called Student Support Services.
May 31, 2013 Announcment
Superintendent Walker Williams is pleased to announce that at its meeting last night, the Board of Education appointed Rebecca Egan as Principal of Montemalaga Elementary, Jane Tasker as Principal of Silver Spur Elementary, and William MacDonald as Principal of Rancho Vista Elementary, effective July 1, 2013.
Becky Egan has worked for the PVPUSD since 1998 as an English teacher, Associate Principal (Palos Verdes High School & Palos Verdes Intermediate School), and as a District administrator working with the Curriculum and Instruction Department. She has an outstanding record as an instructional leader and will be a valuable resource in the District's transition to the Common Core State Standards.
Jane Tasker has worked for the Torrance Unified School District since 1998. She was an elementary school teacher, Assistant Principal (Richardson Middle School), and Principal of Arnold Elementary School since 2006. During her tenure at Arnold Elementary, the school was recognized as a California Distinguished School in both 2008 and 2012.
William MacDonald and his family live in the community. He was a teacher and instructional coach in the Los Angeles Unified School District from 2004-2008. In 2008, he became an Assistant Principal at J.H. McGaugh Elementary School in Seal Beach (Los Alamitos Unified School District); in 2011, he was appointed Principal. Bill is currrently in a doctoral program at USC.
